Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the AVP Tour series leaders, easily downed Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan 21-13, 21-12 to win the Boulder Open on Sunday at the Boulder Reservoir.
May-Treanor and Walsh earned their 11th tour victory this season in 13 tournaments.
Rachel Wacholder, a former standout at the University of Colorado, and Jen Boss finished third after being eliminated by Johnson Jordan and Davis in the semifinal round, losing 21-12, 18-21, 15-13.
Elaine Youngs, a resident of Durango, and Nicole Branagh finished fifth after losing to Dianne DeNecochea and Tammy Leibl, 21-10, 21-17. Wacholder and Youngs, then partners, won the Boulder Open in 2005.
In the men’s tournament, Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger earned a 21-18, 21-15 victory over Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. Lambert and Metzger had to win themselves out of the contender’s bracket after losing to Gibb and Rosenthal earlier in the double-elimination tournament.
