At the risk of sounding like we don’t take a serious problem, well, seriously, we’ll stick our neck out and say that some people put as much effort into being lucky in love as others do in trying to put street life behind them.
Fortunately for Denver’s homeless, there are programs like newgenesis, which since 1985 has provided shelter for working men who have no home. And while matters of the heart are nowhere to be found in the newgenesis mission statement, the agency is all about romance at its signature fundraiser, Lucky in Love.
Plans for the second edition of this date auction and cocktail party were announced when Phil and Andrea Gray hosted a poolside reception at their Cherry Hills home. The Grays are chairing Lucky in Love with Rich and Holly Kylberg; Scott Coors and Dr. Dave Hurt; Donna Crafton; Brad ley Joseph; Bill Ward; Dan Brown; Brent Schneider; Wendy Aiello and Walt DeHaven; KC and Kristina Veio; Mike Landa; and Jesse Morreale.
It will take place Oct. 5 at Mile High Station, and guests can bid on creative dates with such local hotties as nightclub promoter Paulina Szafranski; Lewis & Floorwax radio show producer Kathy Lee; trainer Ben King; extreme skiier Chris Anthony; firefighter Todd Ferrin; teacher Katherine Peterson; and sports reporter and last year’s top money-earner, Michelle Beisner.
Lucky in Love also will include music by the Railbenders. E-vites will be going out soon, but in the meantime details can be obtained by calling Donna Crafton at 303-298-8470.
Said newgenesis executive director Page Peary: “We promise that if you work hard (raising money) for us, we’ll work even harder to make homelessness a thing of the past.”
Food from Chama in Lakewood’s Belmar Center was set out on the Grays’ terrace, and bartenders mixed libations from spirits donated by Sidney Frank Importing Co. for a crowd that included Dave Barnes; Diane Mager; Peter Tenfjord; Douglas Kerbs; Michelle Odenbach; Tom Lorz and Jim Rhye; and Jordan Bullock.
