Air Force Academy – Coach Fisher DeBerry said Wednesday that junior fullback Charles Wells will not play in the Sept. 9 season opener at Tennessee to serve a one-game probation for breaking unspecified academy rules.
DeBerry said Wells would return for the second game, which is Sept. 23 at Wyoming.
Wells played in seven games last season, gaining 37 yards on six carries. He’s competing for playing time this season with juniors Ryan Williams and Scott Peeples and senior Jacobe Kendrick. Kendrick (strained hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
