Getting your player ready...

Byung-Hyun Kim is beating himself.

That was the analysis of Rockies pitching coach Bob Apodaca a day after Kim caved in against the Mets.

“In his anxiety to be perfect, he overanalyzes,” Apodaca said Wednesday. “I think he needs to regain his natural pitching. Leave the analyzing to (Curt) Schilling, who can command every pitch, or to (Greg) Maddux, who can command every pitch on both sides. B.K. is not that kind of pitcher.”

Kim was rocked for seven runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday, his third disastrous outing in a row. In those three games, he’s allowed 19 runs in 14 innings, raising his ERA from 4.65 to 5.49.

Matter of respect

With the offense struggling, hitting coach Duane Espy is under a magnifying glass.

Hurdle was asked if the players respected Espy. Hurdle’s response: “I think some do and some don’t. I think I fall into that same category.”

Footnote

Catcher Danny Ardoin, designated for assignment last week, was claimed off waivers by Baltimore on Wednesday.
