Dozens of volunteers in Summit County searched for a Lakewood chiropractor on a backtracking trip who has been missing since Saturday, officials say.
Richard Keuhn, 49, was supposed to meet up with friends near Cataract Lake on Saturday, but failed to do so, said Paulette Horr, spokeswoman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Department.
An employee of Keuhn’s Lakewood chiropractic office called the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department when he didn’t show up for work Tuesday morning following the holiday weekend, Horr said.
Deputies didn’t find Keuhn at his home and deputies in Summit County found his car at a trailhead near Eagle’s Nest, she said.
About 40 deputies and volunteers searched for Keuhn Tuesday but could not find him, Horr said. A helicopter was used during the search, she said. Other searchers used ATVs in the rugged mountain area.
Keuhn, who is an avid backpacker, began hiking alone on Friday, she said. His friends were to meet him the next day but they were not concerned when they didn’t see him, she said.
Keuhn is not married and does not have any children, Horr said.
Summit County officials intended to ask other sheriff’s departments and volunteers to join the search today.
