
Events on Monday, Sept. 11:
In Golden at 11:45 a.m. in the courtyard behind the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility at 100 Jefferson County Parkway, the 1st Colorado Regimental Brass Band, dressed in Civil War uniforms, will perform patriotic songs.
In Arvada at 6:30 a.m. at the Arvada Elks Lodge at West 57th Avenue and Yukon Street in Olde Town Arvada, there will be patriotic music, prayer, “words of encouragement and honor” and free yellow ribbons.”
At the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department headquarters, 300 Perry St., at 7:45 a.m., a memorial service that includes a “ringing of bells” at the time each Trade Center tower collapsed and a reading of the names of each rescue worker killed. The fire department color guard and the Castle View High School chorale will participate.
In Aurora at 10 a.m. at Vassar Elementary School, 18101 East Vassar Place, Public Schools Superintendent John L. Barry, who was in the Pentagon on 9/11, will take part in a commemorative event, joined by police officers, firefighters and soldiers.
In Boulder at noon in the Wolf Law Building at the University of Colorado, David Getches, dean of the law school, will lead a program that includes the unveiling of a plaque recognizing CU alumni killed during the attacks.
At the Florence Community Center, 100 Railroad St., at 3:30 p.m., state Rep. Buffie McFayden, D-Pueblo, will speak on the role of state and federal correctional officers in keeping communities safe.
At Fort Carson in Colorado Springs at the Division West 1st Army Headquarters Building at 4:45 p.m., Brig. Gen. Anne Macdonald, the deputy commanding general of Division West, will preside over a ceremony.
On Wednesday, Sept. 13
In Cherrington Hall at the University of Denver at 5 p.m., the non-partisan Americans for Informed Democracy will hold a town hall meeting on U.S.-Islamic world relationship to commemorate 9/11.
