Kansas City, Mo. – Davy Arnaud scored two goals and the Kansas City Wizards beat the Colorado Rapids 4-1 Saturday night.
After victories earlier Saturday by the Chicago Fire and New England Revolution, the Wizards (9-13-6) didn’t move up from fourth in the Eastern Conference. However, with the victory they were able to put more distance between themselves and the fifth-place New York Red Bulls, who lost 1-0 Saturday to the Revolution.
Scott Sealy scored for the Wizards just 36 seconds into the game when he knocked home a rebound of a shot by Alex Zotinca that Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon saved but couldn’t control. It was the second-fastest score in Wizards history, after Arnaud’s goal 33 seconds in against the Rapids on Aug. 22, 2003.
Colorado (10-11-5) tied it 10 minutes later on a shot from 20 yards out by Kyle Beckerman.
The Wizards broke the game open with two goals in a three-minute span midway through the second half. The first was by Dave van den Bergh on a rebound off a long shot by Jack Jewsbury. It was van den Bergh’s first MLS goal.
