Q&A
Blair Griffith, 18, of Morrison won the Miss Congeniality Award at this year’s Miss Teen USA pageant in Palm Springs, Calif.
Griffith, Miss Colorado Teen USA 2006, graduated from Bear Creek High School in the spring. She attends Colorado State University at Pueblo, where she is seeking a degree in advertising.
At Bear Creek, Griffith was on the Poms Dance Team, and she participated in the Link Crew program mentoring freshmen.
She worked in retail for a short time at a store in Southwest Plaza.
Q: Tell us about the Miss Congeniality Award – how do you win it?
A: It was voted on by all 50 other girls competing at Miss Teen USA. We were told to vote for the girl who was easiest to get along with and who was the most fun, somebody you would want to keep in touch with after Miss USA.
Q: How did you decide on becoming involved with Miss Teen USA?
A: My mom entered me in Miss Colorado Teen USA about three years ago. Me and my dad used to watch Miss Teen USA all the time on TV, and he made me practice my introduction. My dad passed away a few years ago. My mom said, “You know, your dad always wanted you to enter Miss Teen USA.” I know that he is watching over me. I did the best I could do down there. I accomplished my goal to be nice to everyone.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: My main goal in life is to finish college. Hopefully, I’ll get an internship at an advertising agency here in Denver. Ultimately, I’d like to open up my own advertising agency in New York.
Q: How have your Miss Teen experiences prepared you for the future?
A: It’s helped me build confidence within myself. You go in there thinking you are already full of confidence, and then you see all these girls who are drop-dead gorgeous. You have to go back in and develop your self-confidence all over again. It was good at putting me out there more.
