Rick DeWitt of Arvada and Michael Harrington of Colorado Springs advanced Tuesday through the second round of the U.S. Mid-Amateur on the Canyon course at Forest Highlands G.C. in Flagstaff, Ariz., then played each other in the third round.
Harrington defeated Jason May of Sterling Heights, Mich., on the 19th hole. DeWitt disposed of Doug Hanzel of Savannah, Ga., 3 and 2. In the third round, DeWitt beat Harrington 1-up.
Rage signs one, trades one
The Rocky Mountain Rage signed winger Dorian Anneck, whom the Broomfield-based hockey team acquired in July in a trade with the Memphis RiverKings.
The Rage also traded forward Matt Reynolds, who played last season for Fort Worth, to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in exchange for future considerations.
Anneck had 16 goals and 28 assists in 46 games for Memphis last season. He was a third-round pick by Winnipeg in the 1994 NHL draft.
Area soccer teams rise in rankings
The Colorado women’s soccer team jumped seven spots to No. 14 in the National Soccer Coaches Association rankings released Tuesday, although it lost a game last week. CU (4-1-1) lost to BYU 3-2 on Friday, but rebounded to beat Utah 2-1 on Sunday.
The Metro State women (7-0) retained their No. 2 ranking in Division II after wins over Mesa State and Fort Lewis last week.
The Fort Lewis men’s squad (6-0) rose three spots in the rankings to No. 2, behind only Lynn (Fla.) University. CSU-Pueblo (3-1-1) rose seven spots to No. 21.
