Littleton – Firefighters evacuated 20 to 30 residents of a Littleton apartment building after a fire began in a third-floor apartment Sunday evening.

The fire at the Highline Meadows apartment building was reported at 7:24 p.m. Sunday. One Highline Meadows resident, returning to the building after Littleton fire units responded to the scene, worried aloud that a candle she left burning in her unit may have caused the blaze, according to Larece Younger, who lives nearby.

It took 15 units a little over an hour to contain the fire. No injuries were reported, according to Littleton Fire Chief Doug Ireland. An official cause had not been determined, and a damage estimate was not immediately available.

The Red Cross was assisting those who had been displaced.
