Colorado gasoline prices fell another 10 cents a gallon over the past week, but remain 24 cents higher than the national average.

Colorado’s average for regular unleaded fell from $2.84 to $2.74 over the past week, according to a report issued Monday by the Energy Information Administration, the research arm of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Meanwhile, the national average price for regular dropped from $2.62 to $2.50 during the same period.

Of the nine states surveyed by the federal agency, California had the highest average, at $2.85. The lowest of the surveyed states was Ohio, at $2.21.

Prices nationwide have dropped from record highs last month because of lower crude oil prices and less demand for gas after the Labor Day holiday.

Analysts say that much of the rest of the country tends to see price drops more quickly than Colorado because they’re closer to refineries or ports. About two-thirds of Colorado’s gasoline comes from out of state, primarily by pipeline from Texas, Kansas and Wyoming.
