Mommy-lit entry
Mommies Who Drink,
by Brett Paesel (Warner Books, $23.99)
The subtitle says it all: “Sex, Drugs, and Other Distant Memories of an Ordinary Mom.”
In this latest entry in the mommy-lit genre, author Brett Paesel offers her autobiographical take on motherhood with the kind of hipness and sometimes R-rated repartée you might expect from the
“Sex & the City” gals if you moved them from New York to L.A. and gave them each a kid or two.
DRIVE
Plug in for a quiet ride
Scooters are great on gas mileage, but their engines can be a bit noisy.
One solution?
Eliminate the gas engine (along with the chains, belts, spark plugs, carburetor and more) and go electric.
The EVT 168 scooter, now available in the U.S., fuels up like a Dust Buster at any standard electrical outlet and drives like a dream. Fully charged, the bike has a range of 25-35 miles and goes about 30 mph, according to the manufacturer. That’s not exactly fast, but it’s fast enough for most fans of retro scooters. Price: $2,399. 866-309-6717

SHOP
Fancy Tiger
Sometimes a store comes along that’s so unusual it’s impossible to categorize. Is Fancy Tiger a clothing boutique? It does carry a smart selection of trendy shirts, pants, jewelry and accessories, many of them customized at the hands of up-and-coming designers from near and far. Or is it a hobby shop? It does have all the supplies a craftster needs to sew, crochet, embroider or make stationary. This fun shop – which also carries local CDs and hosts classes in soap-making, knitting and more – is an affordable, new bright spot in the South Broadway neighborhood and worth a bit of exploring. 1 S. Broadway, Denver, 303-733-3855.
