Frontier Airlines president and chief executive Jeff Potter, Schenkein Public Relations, Praco, and public relations veteran Peg McKechnie received top honors last week at the Colorado Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America’s 2006 Gold Pick Awards gala at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
Potter, instrumental to the success of Frontier Airlines, was named Businessperson of the Year.
The Grand Gold Pick, which recognized the top overall score of Gold Pick winners, went to Denver-based Schenkein for its entry “Celebrating the Generosity of Metro Denver,” created for the Denver Foundation.
Praco Public Relations Advertising Co., a Denver and Colorado Springs agency, was honored with the 2006 Gold Spur Award for its campaign to launch Cricket Communications in the Colorado Springs market.
Dozens of other awards were given in various categories.
PRSA’s Colorado chapter, which has 500 members, recognized McKechnie with the 2006 Swede Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award.
McKechnie, who retired as a vice president of Wells Fargo in 2002, served nine years on the board of the Colorado chapter, including as president in 1991 and a three-year term as national assembly delegate.
Sydney Ayers, principal of Ayers Strategic Public Relations, won the chapter service award.
Haley Olinger, account coordinator of Webb PR, won rookie of the year.
