THE GATES FAMILY FOUNDATION: Appointed Lisa Flores as its new senior program officer. Flores returns to the nonprofit community after three years serving as special assistant to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.

THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT BOULDER: Announced that the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research and its founding director, Roger A. Pielke Jr., will be awarded the Eduard Brückner Prize next month at the German Climate Conference in Munich. Pielke and his colleagues have spent the last five years examining how to move beyond political gridlock in the global-warming debate.
