Adelphia Communications Corp., the bankrupt cable company that is winding down operations, said it will pay $1.8 billion to creditors during the third quarter, which ends Saturday.

Greenwood Village-based Adelphia paid most of that amount – $1.65 billion – by Aug. 31, the company said in papers filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.

Adelphia is paying creditors with the proceeds of its $16.7 billion asset sale to Time Warner Inc. and Comcast Corp.
