
The Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce honored Michael B. Hancock, Denver City Council president, along with former Denver city official Wayne Cauthen and others Saturday at its 18th annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards & Dinner, at the Denver Marriott City Center hotel.
Hancock, who represents District 11, received the Wellington E. Webb Political Award for his work with the chamber and its members in building relationships with the city.
Cauthen was given the President’s Award for his work during former Mayor Webb’s administration, specifically the Stapleton redevelopment, and his “inclusiveness” in contracting as current city manager of Kansas City, Mo.
Webb is now president and chief executive of the CBCC, which has 800 members.
Other awards:
The Western Union Co. was named Corporation of the Year.
Geta and Janet Asfaw of the Black McDonald’s Owners Group were named Corporate Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Roxie Williams of Garden Party Catering was named Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year.
Carolyn Love of Kebaya Coaching and Consulting Inc. received the Chairman’s Award.
The Clara Brown Award went to Carla Ladd of the Denver Black Pages.
The newly developed CBCC Partnership Award went to Tami Door, president of the Downtown Denver Partnership.
The chamber’s Education Award was presented to Edward Reed Battle Jr., a graduate of East High School.
