BAILEY, Colo.-

Jefferson County authorities confirm an “active shooter” inside Platte Canyon High School, and students from that school and the adjoining Fitzsimmons Middle School are being evacuated.

The two schools share a wall between them.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says several shots have been fired inside the school, but there are no confirmed reports of injuries.

U.S. Highway 285 is closed at this hour as a bomb squad and SWAT team respond.

Platte Canyon High School had 467 students enrolled during the 2005-2006 school year, according to its Web site.

Fitzsimmons Middle School has about 350 students.

Parents of students are being asked to go to the Bailey substation.

Conifer High School, West Jefferson Middle School and elementary school, and Elk Creek Elementary are also reported to be in lockdown mode.

Medical support is being requested, and Jefferson County is asking for help from Park County, but the reasons are unclear.
