Platte Canyon High School has postponed all of its athletic events for the rest of this week because of the shootings at the school, and the athletic director said the games will be rescheduled throughout next week.
“We canceled the remainder of the week, and we are still working on what we are going to do,” athletic director Jim Owsiany said Thursday.
Owsiany said Thursday’s volleyball game would be moved to Oct. 7. A softball game will be made up next week, and Saturday’s football game against Colorado Springs Christian High School will be played at 3:30 p.m. either Tuesday or Wednesday.
“We have a team meeting (Thursday) afternoon, and I’ll talk to some coaches and the team and decide from there. We’ll try for Tuesday. That gives us Monday to practice and get our heads screwed on. That’s the one workable scenario I see. I can’t think of anything else,” Owsiany said.
Football games are difficult to reschedule because one is played every week. Fitting two in a week is a strain.
“All I know is we are not playing the game. We are bouncing around ideas, but nothing is set. We are going to do anything we can to accommodate them,” Colorado Springs Christian athletic director Andy Parks said about the football game.
Owsiany said the schedule will be solidified after services are held for Emily Keyes, the 16-year-old student who was killed by a gunman who had taken her hostage Wednesday at the school. Platte Canyon and Fitzsimmons Middle School are closed until Monday.
