PALMDALE, Calif.-

A school bus collided with a car and overturned Friday, injuring nine children, one critically, authorities said.

The bus was taking students to the Palmdale Learning Plaza when it was struck shortly before 9 a.m. in the Antelope Valley northeast of Los Angeles, authorities said.

The Palmdale School District bus flipped onto its side.

Nine children, ages 8 to 13, were hospitalized, including a child in critical condition who was flown to UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles County fire Inspector Sam Padilla said

Among the eight other children, one had moderate injuries and the rest had minor injuries, fire spokesman Chris Freeman said.

One of those children suffered a broken arm and the rest were hospitalized to be checked out, school district Superintendent Roger Gallizzi told KTTV.

The bus driver and a special education assistant were not hospitalized. No one in the car was injured.
