New state park

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, the newest in the Colorado system, is scheduled to open Oct. 21. The 1,680-acre parcel beneath eastern flank of Cheyenne Mountain just south of Colorado Springs represents a scenic transition from peak to plain and protects one of the last significant open spaces along the southern Front Range. A discussion of fish management issues in the Gunnison, San Miguel, Uncompahgre and lower Dolores river drainages is scheduled at a 7 p.m. anglers’ roundtable Thursday at Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss. Of particular note is a Division of Wildlife effort to bolster rainbow trout in the Gunnison River.

Poaching incident

The Division of Wildlife is seeking information concerning the discovery of three dead pronghorn Sept. 24 at a vacant lot near the intersection of Ironwood Place and Zebulon Drive in Colorado Springs.
