Showers and thunderstorms fell across the Southwest and the Ohio Valley on Thursday, while the Northeast was warm and sunny.
Flash flooding was a concern in Arizona as strong thunderstorms brought heavy rain and dropped hail in some areas. In California, chilly rain fell across most of the San Francisco Bay Area, through the Sierras and south to Santa Barbara.
Large hail was reported in Mountain Park, N.C., as a cold front passed through the southern Appalachians.
In the South, skies were partly cloudy, and a few thunderstorms popped up in the late afternoon throughout Louisiana.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from 23 degrees at Wadena, Minn., to 98 degrees at Gila Bend, Calif.
