Detectives have arrested a suspect in the murder Wednesday night of a woman who was pounding on a door for help in Edgewater.
Tips led the arrest of Gilberto Cruz, 26, who is also known as Eduardo “Eddie” Espinoza-Martinez, Edgewater Police Chief Dan Keough said.
The woman had begun banging on the door and yelling for help at the house in the 2000 block of Otis Street around 9 p.m., when a man came up behind her and shot her in the head with a shotgun, police said.
He drove away in a dark red or maroon Ford pickup truck.
The woman, identified this morning as Amanda Jean Duran, 22, lived nearby in Edgewater. She died at the scene.
Keough said Espinosa-Martinez had some type of relationship with Duran. Authorities are investigating a motive, he said.
