Los Angeles – After his poor performance in Saturday night’s loss to the Mets, Dodgers starter Greg Maddux said he’s contemplating returning for another season.

“I feel like I’d like to comeback, but I’ll have to talk to my family,” the 40-year-old said.

The four-time Cy Young Award-winner looked nothing like the pitcher who usually keeps hitters off-balance. The Mets pounded him for four runs on seven hits in four innings. Normally an economical pitcher, Maddux threw 23 pitches in the first inning.

On Friday, Maddux said it wasn’t the right time to be thinking about retirement.

“I’ve thought about it a few times, but I think I’ll make my decision when the time is right,” he said. “There’s way too much on my plate right now.”‘

Green finds a home

Mets right fielder Shawn Green, surrounded by cameras and microphones, was trying to answer questions from a media swarm.

But every time he tried to speak, his teammates blasted him with a stream of champagne. Obviously, the former Diamondbacks outfielder, traded to the Mets on Aug. 22, has found a comfy new home.

“This is such an easy team to fit into,” he said. “It’s been kind of an amazing feeling. To go to a new team that has this much confidence yet plays so loose.”

Green wielded a big bat Saturday night, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Floyd hurting

New York left fielder Cliff Floyd, already hampered by a sore Achilles tendon, was forced to leave the game in the first inning after limping home to score a run.

He was taken to the clubhouse, where his Achilles was put on ice. Though unable to participate in the Mets’ postgame celebration, he said he hoped to be able to continue playing in the playoffs. He’s listed as day-to-day.

Footnotes

A rare bright spot for the Dodgers was the play of James Loney, the rookie first baseman who tied a Dodgers record by driving in nine runs against the Rockies last month, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
