vanbriggle.com
One of America’s greatest art potters arrived in the Springs in 1899, when Artus Van Briggle came west from Ohio, hoping to recover from tuberculosis. It was a losing battle – he died six years later – but the pottery still turns out sleek art nouveau shapes in trademark matte colors. Free studio tours, in the former Midland Terminal Railroad roundhouse, are available Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
