St. George, Utah – A pet advocate caught 24 cats after a mobile-home park was destroyed.
They apparently were abandoned as residents of Valley View Mobile Home Park moved away, said Kris Neal of a group called No More Homeless Pets.
“These cats then breed, producing kittens that receive very little human contact and learn to fear humans,” she said.
The trapped cats will be sterilized, vaccinated and have a tip of an ear removed to mark the cat as a fixed feral.
Tracy Bertelsen of Furever Friends in Cedar City took 14 cats.
She said people often are apprehensive about adopting feral cats because they do not show affection like a tame cat.
“Other than keeping your mouse population down, they don’t do too much,” Bertelsen said. “Nobody wants to adopt a wild kitty.”
Neal is bracing for more cats when two mobile-home parks in LaVerkin are removed.
