Getting your player ready...

Office and district sought: State Representative, House District 49

Name: Sue Radford

Party affiliation: Democrat

Website: http://radfordfor49.com

E-mail: Sue@radfordfor49.com

Age: 44

Last degree earned: BS, Electrical Engineering at CSU 1994 (I also have a BS and MS in Chemistry from Rensselaer)

Occupation: Laid off electrical engineer, formerly with HP

Hobbies: 100% whole wheat bread (I’ve won the Colorado State Fair two years in a row.)

Family: Husband, Don; daughter, Katie

How long have you lived in Colorado? Where did you live before? Since 1988. We moved here from upstate New York when Don took a job as a professor at CSU.

Last book read: “Stiff” by Mary Roach.

Civic Involvements: Mathcounts team assistant coach at Lesher Junior High School; volunteer with Homelessness Prevention Program at Plymouth Congregational Church; neighborhood organizer for County road rebuilding project; local activist for responsible gravel mining practices; volunteer bookkeeper for several Democratic campaigns.

Major endorsements: NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado; Colorado AFL-CIO; Colorado Protectors of Public Schools (COPOPS); Colorado Ceasefire; Colorado Stonewall Democrats.

Why are you running? No one was running against the incumbent. I couldn’t let it go. He is an extremist who does not represent my views in any way.

What are the top three challenges facing Colorado or the institution you seek to represent?

Colorado should be leading the nation in renewable energy.

Too many Coloradans can’t afford medical care or health insurance.

Our colleges and universities have been devastated by budget cuts.

What is your top priority in the next session if you should win? We’ve got huge resources of sun and wind and nationally known renewable technology experts. Colorado should take the lead in energy conservation and renewable energy.

What proposal in the last session did you oppose the most? Lundberg sponsored a resolution that would redefine pregnancy as beginning at fertilization rather than implantation. This is a direct assault on Colorado women’s rights.

What proposal in the last session did you agree with the most? HB06-1325 Electric Transmission Facilities Study. I’m pleased to see us looking at how the grid must be updated for distributed and renewable generation.
