
One hiker was killed and four others were injured when lightning struck Mount Blue Sky on Sunday afternoon, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal lightning strike was reported shortly after 1:20 p.m. Sunday, Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jenny Fulton said in an email to The Denver Post.
Fulton said one person was killed by the strike and another was airlifted to the hospital. Three others were evaluated by paramedics on scene for minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital, she said.
It’s unknown whether the five people struck were all in the same party, Fulton said.
The person killed will be identified by the Clear Creek County Coroner’s Office.
