Aurora police have arrested a suspect in the sexual assault of a 75-year-old woman.
The suspect, Travis Kirk Bland, 22, was identified with the help of tips from the public.
He had been jailed on an unrelated theft charge.
Forensic evidence taken from Bland was connected to the crime scene, according to police.
The attack occurred on October 11, inside the woman’s home on the 2500 block of S. Worchester Court. The assailant encountered the woman outside, and forced her back into the house.
He then ransacked the home, and forced her into her car to drive to a nearby bank. He attempted to get money from her bank account using an automated teller machine.
He then drove her back to her home where he sexually assaulted her.
Police have not released Bland’s photo, pending a photo lineup.
Although forensic evidence was not a match, investigators have not ruled out a possible connection between Bland and a second sexual assault involving a 19-year-old victim. It took place on October 2 in the 1400 block of S. Geneva Way.
Bland is being held in Arapahoe County in lieu of a $2 million dollar bond. He faces potential charges of sex assault and kidnapping.
