Office sought: Secretary of State
Name: Ken Gordon
Party: Democrat
Website: kengordon.com
Email: ken@kengordon.com
Age: 56
Last degree earned: Juris Doctor
Occupation: State senator, attorney at law
Hobbies: Reading, hiking, travel
Family: Children: Ben and Windflower. Windflower just had a daughter, Aubrielle, so I am also a grandfather now.
How long have you lived in Colorado?: I have lived in Colorado for 31 years. I am originally from Michigan.
Last book read: “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin
Civic involvement: Board member Audubon Society; member Temple Emanuel; adjunct professor of political science at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Major endorsements: Why are you running:
I will be fair to all parties, increase citizen participation and reduce the influence of money. This is why I don’t take special interest contributions.
Top three challenges: Colorado needs to have fair, accurate and accessible elections. We also need to develop growth and water policies that are rational and sustainable. We need to reduce the disproportionate influence of money in elections.
I think the secretary of state should be a leader in the fight to reduce the influence of special interest money. This is why I don’t accept special interest PAC contributions. I will also immediately implement the new lobbyist disclosure requirements. The office should also do a better job using technology to make campaign finance information available and government more open and transparent.
