How long have you lived in Colorado? Where did you live before? My father is a Colorado native, but was a career soldier. We returned to Colorado for his last military assignment before retiring at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in 1964. Prior to coming to Colorado, I lived in Germany, California, Alaska, Arkansas and Missouri.
Last book read: “The American Military Adventure in Iraq,” by Thomas Ricks.
Civic Involvement: Aurora Human Relations Commission, 1983-1987; Aurora Citizens Advisory Budget Committee, 1985-1988; American Legion, 1991-present; Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1991-present; Save Our Youth, volunteer mentor, 2003-present.
Major endorsements: Pueblo Chieftan; Grand Junction Sentinel
Why are you running? The right to vote is the most sacred of all the freedoms bestowed upon Americans and I am the best candidate to protect that right.
What are the top three challenges facing Colorado or the institute you seek to represent?
1. The voters need to have the confidence that every ballot cast is accurately counted.
2. Colorado needs to be more proactive in preventing voter fraud.
3. The fees charged to businesses for their filing requirements with the Secretary of State’s office are grossly in excess of the cost of administratively providing the service.
How would you change the office of Secretary of State? Accurately counting every vote. If elected, I will immediately launch an investigation into the accuracy of all of Colorado’s voting machines. If any of these voting systems are found to not be accurately counting every vote, then I will remove them from further use until their problems can be fixed.
Are there changes you would make to the election process? The integrity of the ballot box is just as important as access to the ballot box. The two are not mutually exclusive. We ought to regard registering to vote to be at least as important as the right to buy cigarettes or beer where a government-issued photo ID card is required to prove that the prospective purchaser is legally entitled to do so.
