Stay in our state to play
My congratulations and appreciation go to Ryan Miller, an outstanding football player from Columbine, for committing to join the CU Buffs.
Although I understand the reasons, it always irritates me when I read about the best Colorado players going out of state to play. It takes only one good recruiting class to start the process of returning a team to excellence, and it only takes one high-profile player to start it.
For you other premier Colorado high school seniors, follow Ryan’s lead, stay home and get the CU program back where it used to be. The coaches we have now can get it done.

Denver’s start just decoy
I will give you this exclusive free of charge (in other words, for what it’s worth). It is my opinion the Old Fox, coach Mike Shanahan, has used the Broncos’ first few games as a decoy to lull Indianapolis into complacency. He has deliberately held the scoring down to fool the opposition.
Today, watch out. Jake Plummer will go high, wide and handsome and score at will. You heard it here first.

Frigid finish for baseball
‘Tis the season. Frost on the pumpkins, snowflakes in the air, trick or treaters in the streets.
Time to put on the ol’ parka and scarf, hat with ear flaps, gloves, conceal that flask of cider mixed with something, spend a couple hundred bucks and go see a ballgame. Baseball, not football.
Isn’t it time the commissioner recognizes the fact that the season is too long, the playoffs are too long, the games are too long and, yes, the underwear the players must wear is way too long?
The national pastime is way past its time.
