“Did anyone check that sheriff’s party registration? He might be on the phone right now with Bob Beauprez (saying), ‘Can I be your manager of public safety?”‘
Bill Ritter, after the Huerfano County sheriff gave him the all-clear to take his campaign bus over La Veta Pass following last week’s blizzard.
Ritter campaign ad: A little candy corn
The Ritter campaign has an online treat for supporters – a comic video ad of three children in scary costumes.
One is a ghost, another is a skeleton and the third is Bob Beauprez.
As the kids trick or treat, one woman gives the child in the Beauprez costume a hard time for wanting to increase the sales tax, failing to fix the immigration problem and running a negative campaign.
“Ma’am, it’s just a costume,” the child says. “Can I have some candy?”
As the kids walk away, the one in the Beauprez costume says, “Next year I’m going to be Gov. Ritter.”

The gay-marriage dance, take two
The Grand Junction Sentinel has changed its stand on gay marriage.
In a rare move by a newspaper, it changed its position on Amendment 43 – the gay-marriage ban – from opposition to support.
The switch followed a New Jersey court ruling last week that same-sex couples are due all of the rights and benefits that heterosexual couples obtain through marriage.
“In light of the New Jersey ruling, clear language in the Colorado Constitution that cannot be so easily overturned by judicial fiat as state law is a virtual necessity to ensure that marriage in Colorado remains a union between one man and one woman,” the paper wrote.
2 northern dailies endorse Beauprez
Speaking of endorsements, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez has finally picked up a few. Well, at least one, which ran in sister papers in Longmont and Loveland.
Democrat Bill Ritter has been endorsed by most of Colorado’s major dailies, including The Denver Post.
Arizona ballot sets record for length
Think Colorado’s ballot is long? Be glad you don’t live in Arizona.
Along with the usual slate of candidates, Arizona’s Nov. 7 ballot contains 19 initiative and referendum measures – the most of any state in the nation this year.
The subjects range from same- sex marriage and workplace smoking to illegal immigration and legislative pay.
The number of ballot measures apparently ties a state record set in 1950.
Nationally, there are 205 ballot measures, with Arizona’s 19 followed by 14 in Colorado and 13 in California, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
BY THE NUMBERS
