Greenwood Village – Taylor Montgomery saw it “as a place for me.”
So the senior at Cherry Creek High School, a power forward, committed orally to play basketball at the University of Northern Colorado.
“It’s home and (the Bears) just joined a conference (Big Sky),” Montgomery said. “I can make my own path and do big things.”
Montgomery did several big things in 2005-06, when he helped the Bruins to the Class 5A state title game, notably with two huge plays – a blocked shot in the lane and an ensuing turnaround baseline move for a basket in the final seconds of a key victory over league rival Grandview.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder, the son of former Broncos offensive lineman Marv Montgomery, averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds last season in being named 5A honorable mention all-state by The Denver Post.
He has a 3.6 grade-point average and is considering business as a major.
“I’m happy for him, and it’s a good place for Taylor,” Cherry Creek coach Mike Brookhart said.
