Wayne, Neb. – The Adams State men’s cross country team, top-ranked in the nation, dominated the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Championships on Saturday on the campus of Wayne State, placing five runners in the top eight for its second consecutive regional title.
Jesus Solis, the men’s runner- up on the 10,000-meter course, led Adams State with a time of 30 minutes, 43.4 seconds. Western State, ranked fifth in the nation, finished second and was led by individual champion Kim Hogarth (30:33.0). Adams outscored Western 26-55.
It was Adams State’s third regional title in the past four years. Colorado Mines, ranked sixth in the country, placed three runners in the top 10 and finished third with 71 points. The Orediggers’ Joel Hamilton finished third in 30:51.3.
The Division II national meet is Nov. 18 in Pensacola, Fla.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Wayne, Neb. – The Western State women’s team, led by Esther Komen’s first-place finish, upset Adams State to win the North Central Regional Championships.
Komen ran the 6,000-meter course in 20:58.5, and Western’s Agnes Kroneraff finished second in 21:08.9. Colorado-Colorado Springs’ Shannon Payne was third at 21:20.8, and Brittany Somers was the top placer for Adams State with a fourth-place finish of 21:33.5. Western’s victory snapped a streak of four consecutive regional championships for Adams State.
MEN’S HOCKEY: AIR FORCE 4, RIT 4, OT
Air Force Academy – Air Force winger Josh Frider scored with 39 seconds remaining to salvage a point as the Falcons earned a 4-4 overtime tie with Rochester Institute of Technology in an Atlantic Hockey Association game at Cadet Ice Arena.
Air Force (4-5-1, 2-1-1 AHA) trailed 4-3 in the final minute when goalie Ian Harper was pulled for an extra skater. Brent Olson then found Frider on the left wing for a wrist-shot goal. Rochester moved to 3-2-2, 3-1-1.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: CSU-PUEBLO 84, DENVER 46
Three Colorado State-Pueblo players scored in double figures to open its exhibition season with a victory over host Denver at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Thunderwolves’ Brett Cloepful led all scorers with 20 points. Denver was led by Antonio Porch’s 11 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: DENVER 65, ADAMS STATE 23
Freshman Brianna Culberson scored 14 points and Denver used a 21-0 run in the first half to cruise to an exhibition victory over visiting Adams State at Hamilton Gymnasium.
Andi Mason added 11 points for the Pioneers
WOMEN’S SOCCER: DENVER 4, NORTH TEXAS 0
Lafayette, La. – Denver captured its fourth Sun Belt Conference tournament championship in six years and first since 2003 with a victory over North Texas.
The Pioneers did not allow a goal in the SBC tournament, outscoring opponents 9-0.
Denver was led by tournament MVP Taryn Hemmings, who had five goals in the tournament. Denver will make its third appearance in the NCAA Women’s College Cup. The first round is Friday through Sunday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: CHAPMAN UNIV. 3, COLO. COLL. 1
Colorado Springs – Chapman outlasted Colorado College 30-18, 18-30, 30-22, 30-26 to win the Association of Division III Independent West Coast championship. Nikkie Powers led Chapman (17-10) with 16 kills and 25 digs. Colorado College (23-10) are expecting a ninth consecutive NCAA D-III tournament berth.

Columbia, Mo. – No. 21 Missouri held off a Colorado (13-9, 9-6 Big 12) rally, despite Amber Sutherland’s 20 kills and 18 digs, to win 30-23, 30-17, 28-30, 30-28 at Hearnes Center.
