A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the recovery of a computer stolen from the Denver offices of Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) during the weekend of October 14, 2006.
The Denver field office of the FBI today established a telephone tipline for those who have information relevant to the investigation, including information that might lead to the recovery of the missing computer. The tipline is 1-800-CALL-FBI.
The FBI tipline should be used only by individuals who believe they have information relevant to the computer theft investigation. Individuals who believe they have been victims of identity theft stemming from this matter should contact their local law enforcement agencies.
The computer held state-owned databases with the personal information of about 1.4 million people.
The computer contained information from the state’s Family Support Registry and the New Hire Directory, which ACS has maintained for the Department of Human Services since 1999.
The registry holds the personal information – name, date of birth, address and Social Security number – of about 500,000 child-support payers and recipients. The directory also has the personal information of every new hire in Colorado and some other states – nearly 1 million names – which employers must file with the state each month.
