Carmelo Anthony led Syracuse to its first national title in his only season at the school, and today the Nuggets forward donated $3 million to the school for a basketball practice facility.
Anthony, 22, was joined at a news conference today at the Pepsi Center by Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and athletic director Dr. Daryl Gross. Anthony’s gift is one of the largest in the athletic department’s history.
The facility, which is still in the planning process, would have two practice courts, locker rooms and offices for the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Anthony, in his fourth season with the Nuggets, was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 draft when he left school early. He was an 18-year-old freshman and led Syracuse to a 30-5 record en route to the title.
