It’s fall, the snow is flying, and it surely must be SUV time for they are
starting to show up in my test-car repertoire often.
The car companies are
trotting them out to car reviewers because 1) there are many, many SUVs on
the market and the competition is fierce, and 2) getting an SUV is often an
impulse buy, like snow tires, that is done rather more quickly than one
would do in, say, June, because the prospect of summer weather doesn’t worry
anyone car-wise, while the prospect of imminent winter freezes brain cells
along with streets.
In other words, car companies sell a ton of SUVs at the start of winter,
like they sell a lot of convertibles at the first hint of summer, and the
buyers of these vehicles want them rather quickly.
