In observance of Veteran’s Day, all federal, state, county and City of Denver offices and courts will be closed today.

Public schools, however, will remain open.

There will be no mail delivery today.

RTD buses and light rail will operate on normal schedules.

Denver’s metered parking spaces will be free both Friday and Saturday, including north Cherry Creek kiosk parking.

Denver trash pick up will be on the regular schedule.

Friday

VFW Post 2461 and Rolling Thunder Inc., will place 1,500 flags on Veterans’ graves this morning at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St.

Saturday

Denver’s annual Veterans’ Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade will assemble at Civic Center Park, then proceed via 14th Street to Court Place, then to 15th Street and Champa Street, then east to 17th Street, up to Broadway then south to 13th Avenue. The reviewing stands will be at 14th Avenue and Broadway. Over 100 groups are expected for the celebration, including the US Navy Color Guard, vintage vehicles, various marching bands and groups representing Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Posts and Disable American Veterans chapters. Participants will begin marshalling at 9 a.m. For information, contact parade chairman Andrew Grieb at 303-329-0381.

Longmont Veteran’s Day Parade, conducted by Longs Peak VFW No. 2601, will be at 10:30 a.m., and starts at Longs Peak and Roosevelt Park, proceeds east to Main Street, south on Main Street to Fourth Avenue, west on Fourth Avenue to Coffman, then north on Coffman to start point.

Fort Logan VA National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., is having its annual Veterans Day Service at 11 a.m. Speakers will remember those veterans who are still with us. A flyover is scheduled, weather permitting. The service will end with a wreath laying, 21-gun salute, and the release of the “White Birds of Freedom” (provided by White Birds of Colorado, Ltd.) and “Taps.” VFW Post No. 9644 and its Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon following the service at the Post Home, 2680 W. Hampden Ave. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony also will be held at VFW Post No. 9644.

An observance of Veterans’ Day program will be at 2 p.m. in the Military Area at Riverside Cemetery, 5201 Brighton Blvd. The program features the 4th Artillery Regimental Brass Band in concert. Virgil Hughes will provide historical commentary. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move in to the Chapel. Following the concert, Charles Counts, Riverside’s Military Historian will lead a military history walking tour.

To honor veterans, US Veterans, current members of the US armed forces and their families will be admitted free of charge on Nov. 11 to Rocky Mountain National Park and most other public lands administered by the Department of the Interior. The administrative fee waiver of entrance fees will apply annually on Veterans Day at public lands managed by the Interior’s National Park Service.
