Getting your player ready...

In this modern era of minimalist fast-packing, we’ve almost run out of ways to shed weight on the trail. Almost, but not quite. The clever minds at Black Diamond have seemingly managed to capture both the speed and weight of light in the new Ion headlamp, a super-bright, dual-LED lamp weighing in at a scant 1 ounce including a replaceable 6-volt battery. Small enough to stash in your car’s empty ashtray or that random hip pocket they’ve been sewing into your jeans since you were a kid, the Ion comes complete with a pivoting head and adjustable elastic headband to direct the light anywhere you want it up to about 20 yards for a lengthy burn time of up to 15 hours. With a suggested retail price of about $20, it’s not only the lightest lamp in the Black Diamond line, it’s also the cheapest. So now there really aren’t any good excuses left for being caught in the dark.
