A 25-year-old man was taken into custody by the Englewood Police Department SWAT team after he barricaded himself in his uncle’s condominium this morning.

According to police, Alexander Laing broke into his uncle’s unoccupied condo near South Decatur Street and West Union Avenue, then called relatives, who recognized the caller ID telephone number. Knowing Laing shouldn’t have been in the condo, the relatives called police.

Police saw Laing peeking out of a window. Not knowing if he was armed, the SWAT team was called in. Laing refused to surrender. Gas was put into the condo without success. The SWAT team finally broke through the front door and captured him without injuries to anyone.

Laing was wanted on two misdemeanor warrants, one of them from Douglas County, police said. He also was wanted by Denver Police for questioning in an incident Sunday night, said Investigator John Hoehler. Laing is expected to be charged with second-degree burglary.
