Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. Martin had surgery on his right knee Wednesday morning at Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail to remove loose bodies revealed in an MRI last week. The surgery, however, revealed more damage than was originally found Nov. 8.

It’s uncertain when Martin will be able to play again.

Martin’s career with the Nuggets has been plagued by knee injuries. The 2004 NBA All-Star had microfracture surgery on his left knee during the summer of 2005 and missed 22 games last season due to ailments pertaining to the surgery.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound Martin appeared healthy in preseason but was declared out for several weeks after an MRI last week revealed problems with his right knee. Martin learned about an hour before tipoff against the New York Knicks a week ago that Dr. Steve Traina wanted to evaluate his right knee. The results revealed that Martin would need arthroscopic surgery to
remove loose bodies in that knee. Martin had chronic knee pain for two to three days before the MRI.

Martin signed signed a seven-year, $90 million contract when he joined the Nuggets in the offseason two years ago. He said after the 2004-05 season that he had been hampered by his left knee all season.
