An extensive program conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with an assist from the Mule Deer Foundation, revealed no chronic wasting disease in the 20 deer that were trapped, anesthetized and tested. Deer at the 15,855-acre refuge northeast of Denver never have tested positive for the neurological disease generally fatal to deer and elk. The USFWS continues to monitor the herd.
