A Day to be remembered

In the “Top 20 Colorado athletes who made an impact” on Nov. 12, you forgot one great athlete – Pat Day of Brush. In his senior year in high school, he won the Colorado state wrestling title in his weight.

He then went on to be one of the greatest jockeys of all time, winning more than 8,800 races in 31 years. He won every great horse race, including the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes.

Day, who won more races at Churchill Downs than any other jockey in history, was inducted into the Colorado Hall of Fame.

Nuggets’ weighty matters

Let’s see. Two years ago, Voshon Leonard is lost for the season in the first game. Last year, Nene goes down for the season in the first game. This year, the Nuggets make it to the second game, and then lose Kenyon Martin for the season and the portly Nene for an extended period.

Meanwhile, Andre Miller appears to be packing extra pounds. Does anyone else think the Nuggets should look to their trainer for answers? Or should they be looking for better offseason motivation strategies for their players?
