This morning, Denver city officials announced a new, non-stop international flight out of Denver International Airport.
The Lufthansa flights, serving Munich, will start in March. The estimated economic benefit of the deal to Denver is $108 million dollars per year.
“Any time we can announce a non-stop international flight that brings people in and out of Denver is a huge deal,” said Mayor John Hickenlooper.
City officials had been working with the airline for several years on the deal. Lufthansa already flies a daily direct route to Frankfurt.
The new daily flight will be on an Airbus 340-300 airplane with 241 seats. Passengers will be able to connect to other cities throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
Lufthansa is a partner through the Star Alliance with United Airlines, which is the largest carrier in Denver. Air Canada and US Airways are also members of the Star Alliance.
