Breckenridge-based Babes in the Backcountry is hosting its first “Intro to the Backcountry” program of the season Sunday at the Keystone Nordic Center. Open to telemark, alpine skiers and cross country skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers, the $100 seminar is designed for athletes of all abilities who are interested in learning or enhancing backcountry skills. The fee includes use of demo gear, including beacons, shovels, probes, packs, skis, boots and poles.

The indoor-outdoor field sessions offer a safe, controlled environment with hands-on experience in using backcountry equipment while learning skills integral to backcountry travel in winter. A second “Intro” course will be held Dec. 10 at the Gold Run Nordic Center.
