Broncos starting safety Nick Ferguson is likely out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury suffered in the team’s 35-27 loss to the San Diego Chargers, a team source confirmed this morning.

The Broncos previously lost backup safety Sam Brandon to a knee injury during their victory at Pittsburgh on Nov. 5.

The loss of Ferguson and Brandon likely means that Curome Cox will move into the starting lineup when the team plays Thursday night at Kansas City. Hamza Abdullah would be next in line behind Cox.

Ferguson had 36 tackles, one interception and he forced one fumble in 10 games this season.

To take Ferguson’s place on the roster, Denver signed defensive back Quentin Harris. He was cut in September by the New York Giants. Harris, a Syracuse product, spent the past four seasons in Arizona.

Harris will likely play on special teams if he is active against Kansas City on Thursday.

“This is a good opportunity for me,” Harris said. “I look forward to the chance.”
