Bill Vandermeer won a duel of brothers in the Amarillo Gorillas’ 2-0 win over the visiting Rocky Mountain Rage in a Central Hockey League game Wednesday.

Vandermeer’s game-winning goal in the first period overcame the Rage’s 31-23 shot advantage. Vandermeer’s older brother, Dan Vandermeer, is Rocky Mountain’s captain.

The Colorado Eagles won a seventh consecutive home game, 4-1 over the Tulsa Oilers. Seth Leonard scored a hat trick for the Eagles, who continue to lead the Northwest Division. The Eagles host the Rage in a CHL game Friday in Loveland.

Two CSU volleyball players named all-MWC

Mekana Barnes and Tonya Mokelki, standouts on the Colorado State volleyball team, were chosen to the all-Mountain West Conference team after a vote by the league’s nine head coaches. Airial Salvo, an outside hitter from Utah, was voted the MWC player of the year.

Eighth-seeded New Mexico eliminated ninth-seeded Air Force from the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament at Cox Pavilion on the campus of Nevada-Las Vegas. The Lobos held the Falcons to an 0.23 hitting percentage in winning 30-19, 30-13, 30-19.
