Caitlin McCarthy was back in Boulder for Thanksgiving – but she’s returning to Hollywood today to stoke the star-making machinery.
McCarthy, 17, stars in the upcoming MyNetworkTV series “Watch Over Me.” She plays the daughter of Catherine Oxenberg, appearing in 48 episodes of the series’ 68. The show debuts Dec. 6 on Ch. 20.
In the series she plays a good daughter out for justice, and her mom, Jan McCarthy, says she actually is a good daughter. “And she always brings justice to our family,” Jan says.
After a year and a half at Boulder High, she dropped out to move to California, chasing the dream, pretty much solo. But she’s a tough slip of a girl, with a Tae Kwon Do black belt. Besides, shooting these MyNetworkTV series takes up every minute of your day and night.
Boulder life is different from Hollywood. All she planned to do was hang out and play flag football.
Old and new
The 2007 Zagat Survey of “America’s Top Restaurants” ranks Mizuna as the best for food in all of Colorado. Highland’s Garden Cafe, Del Frisco’s, L’Atelier, Sweet Basil, Cafe Brazil, Sushi Den and Flagstaff House are right behind. Since Zagat doesn’t survey the region anymore, the hailed Frasca Food and Wine gets listed in “other noteworthy places,” but the write-up gives it a shout-out.
Meanwhile, 5280 is out this week with its list of Denver’s Best New Restaurants – with pics from national food shutterbug Laurie Smith.
Amanda Faison did the picking – and goes with Ellen Quinn Kratzer and Duey Kratzer’s Cafe Mondo. She likes the wine dinners – even though the little place serves dinner only a few times a month. Chutney’s comes in from Castle Rock. Then you have Duo, Gaia, Gelman’s, Limon, Steuben’s, Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs, Tula, Virgilio’s Pizzeria Neapolitana. You’re probably still stuffed from Thanksgiving, but these joints are worth visiting.
Breathing easy
All the national and local talk about installing breath-test interlocks in cars to prevent drunken driving reminds me of the machines used in cars when I lived in Crested Butte. If you blew a .07, the car would start. If you blew a .08, the car wouldn’t start. If you blew a .10 or higher, the car would automatically drive you to your ex-girlfriend’s house.
