Boulder – More than two weeks after the election,
two candidates for a seat on the University of Colorado s governing
Board of Regents agree their race is still to close to call and may
take a recount to settle.

It could be Dec. 1 before Republican Brian Davidson and Democrat
Stephen Ludwig know what the final tally is and whether the margin
will be less than 0.5 percentage point, the trigger for a recount,
the candidates told the Daily Camera in Thursday s editions.

Dec. 1 is the deadline for the secretary of state to compile the
county-by-county results into statewide totals.

Ludwig said he thought he had a lead of about 7,000 votes this
week but then realized heavily Republican El Paso County had not
turned in more than 4,000 provisional ballots.

I think that will throw us into recount land, he said.

Davidson said trying to figure out who is ahead has been
frustrating.

We ve got multiple numbers, he said. It depends on how
many times you call the county. We ve got anywhere from what
(Ludwig) is saying that I m 6,000 votes down to showing me
3,500 up, and everywhere in between.

Davidson is a resident physician for the University of Colorado
Department of Anesthesiology. Ludwig is a business and
communications consultant.
