The creative process can be a lonely one, and the stereotypical notion of the artist’s solitary existence surely stems from reality.
But for artsy types who want to reach out and socialize with other creative people, Self Made provides a great opportunity to network within the arts community on a personal basis. Each Tuesday at Double Daughters’ Salotto, Denver’s artists (and art aficionados) are welcomed into an open salon at 5:30 p.m.
It’s a casual gathering. Each week a featured guest – usually an accomplished visual artist, craftsperson, writer or musician – shares his or her experiences in an informal setting. The group gathers around the low couches in the rear of Double Daughters, nibbles on free appetizers, and takes advantage of half- price drink specials during happy hour. And with cocktails with names such as the Rabid Monkey, The Fall of Man, and Pirate Socks and Dead Parrots, the menu certainly appeals to those born with a natural creative flair.
Coming up next: Ginger White, senior economic development officer with the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, on Tuesday, and ceramic artist Amy Chavez on Dec. 12.
